Marriott International, Inc. is a leading worldwide hospitality company. Its heritage can be traced to a soft-drink stand opened in Washington DC in 1927 by J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott. Today, Marriott International has nearly 2,800 lodging properties in 70 countries and territories around the world.

CHALLENGE:

Marriott was looking for a scalable, cost-effective HR and payroll platform and suite of best-practice processes on which to operate HR business process outsourcing for 10,000 Marriott UK staff, following its sale by Whitbread. Through outsourcing its technology management, Marriott was looking to optimise system availability and security as well as increasing there ROI and lowering Total Cost of Ownership.

SOLUTION:

Marriott selected Oracle as offering the best strategic fit, broadest functionality suite, greatest long-term value and lowest TCO for Marriott’s requirements.

To help them implement Oracle HRMS, Marriott selected Oracle Certified Advantage Partner Symatrix and achieved a seamless transfer and go-live on time and on budget.

Symatrix created a single, centralised, web-enabled HR database for Marriott, making up-to-date staff records available in real time to all UK HR managers. By utilising Oracle’s web enabled processes, Marriott was able to eliminate the need to retain a functional specialist at each of its 47 hotels in the UK, enabling head count cuts of 50% through multiple role sharing.

Through Business Processing Outsourcing, Marriott was able to cut HR Management overhead by 20% with further significant savings in infrastructure management by using Oracle On Demand.

Marriott are now looking to leverage further efficiencies by rolling out Oracle Self-Service HR.
