Getting The Most Out Of Oracle Core HR

By Julie Abbott, Senior HR Consultant, Symatrix

Many organisations have made significant investments in their core Oracle HR system but as their business changes over time, the original implementation may no longer be maximising the full capabilities and value that the system offers.

In meeting with users, I often find that they are not using certain functionality simply because they did not know that capability existed.

Single Source of Data
Oracle Core HR can provide you with a single source of data for not only your employees but also for contractors and agency staff. This single source of data for your entire workforce then enables you to:

Multi-Country Requirements
If your initial deployment was focused on a single country, you are probably not aware that Oracle supports localisation for 38 different countries. Within core HR it is possible to gain a single view of your global workforce while ensuring that each country is supported with local language, currency and legislation.

Alerts
Setting alerts within Core HR can greatly reduce the administrative burden on the HR team, ensuring that key events or time-sensitive actions are not forgotten as well as monitoring key parameters and alerting you to any trends that form. For example, alerts can be used to remind a manager about an end of probation review, notify them of repeated absences or other trends or informing the relevant staff of starters and leavers to ensure smooth transition

The system can support the rules you have in place that govern entitlement to leave and other types of absence; provide HR and managers with the ability to track dates of the absence, the type and reason for absence, whether they are entitled to that absence, what absence they have had so far and who else is absent at the same time.

Manage Absence
You should be using your core HR system to do more than just record absence data. The system can support the rules you have in place that govern entitlement to leave and other types of absence; provide HR and managers with the ability to track dates of the absence, the type and reason for absence, whether they are entitled to that absence, what absence they have had so far and who else is absent at the same time.

Manage Compensation
Oracle Core HR can provide you with the ability to analyse employee compensation elements through in-built analytics to compare salaries with others in the same job, country and salary basis as well as enabling you to do comparisons against market salary data.

Simple Forms & Templates
Some organisations find forms difficult because they are using the original core forms and menus rather than creating their own tailored forms and templates. These allow you to simplify screens by including only the fields you want in terms of person and assignment information, improving user experience and reducing time spent.

Security
Oracle Core HR can be used to manage security and create automatic synchronisation between your employee records and your user access systems. Oracle Core HR will synchronise with your Active Directory service (the core register in your IT network that manages who gets access to which systems and services) and ensure leavers are removed from the system automatically.
