Halcrow

Halcrow specialises in the provision of planning, design and management services for infrastructure development worldwide. With interests in transportation, water, maritime and property, the company is undertaking commissions in over 80 countries from a network of more than 90 offices.

The Challenge

As an organisation looking to sustain annual global growth of 15%, Halcrow was looking to deploy a full HR Management system that could assist them address two key challenges:

Streamline and optimise HR management and cut administration whilst recruiting 1,500 staff in 2008.
Be able to attract, recruit, develop and retain the most highly skilled resources in what is a highly competitive sector.

The Solution

Halcrow was looking to replace its then UK-centric, legacy HR & Payroll solutions with a single suite of scalable, self-service based, workflow-driven processes that could be implemented globally. After evaluating four vendors, Halcrow chose Oracle for its broad range of HR functionality and its ability to manage all employees within a single system while adhering to local in-country regulations.

Halcrow selected Symatrix not only for its in-depth knowledge of Oracle HCM (Human Capital Management) but also for its Simply deployment approach. With this approach, the experience of Symatrix was leveraged to provide comprehensive out-of-the-box functionality; delivering Halcrow a solution that was tailored to its needs. The Project was delivered on time and to budget.

Halcrow utilised core Oracle HR to create a single HR database and enforced consistent, best practice processes across their organisation. With recruitment being high on Halcrow’s agenda, they implemented Oracle iRecruitment, which has not only helped them streamline the hiring cycle, but has saved them $1 million annually on recruitment associated costs. In terms of developing existing employees and addressing the problem of skill shortages, Halcrow use Oracle Learning Management to deliver training and track the qualifications of their employees.
